Lockdown landscapes.

Lockdown landscapes. 
Conceived and created during 'lockdown'. 

There are 4 frames here, reusable, some of them; the photographic image is important as a record. 

They are not entirely a political statement; or even as separate parts. The keyhole is intended as a visual pun in reverence of the title. 

Pieces each created in one day: They're a statement concerning making something out of nothing; or whatever oddment is available.

The skeletal form of the shopper bag is a part of the finished work. 

Architectural in construction, the exoskeleton gives the piece a zoomorphic appearance. 

Flat packed; constructed using string; without glue or screws.

Cells.

 

Cells with string.

Biomorphic / geometric / cell structures.

I have used laser cut MDF and string to create these objects. (No glue). A diptych: 2 cells finished with Indian ink, elastic string and found objects. Artist and collaborator, I fabricated one cell, my participator followed me and constructed the second cell. They are modular by form, similar to biological cells / molecular structures.

Metaphysics

Definition: noun

the branch of philosophy that deals with the first principles of things, including abstract concepts such as being, knowing, identity, time, and space.

Endless House is a conceptual work of architecture.

Kiesler used the project to express an elaborate, personal metaphysics based on the concepts of ‘connectivity’, ‘correality’ and ‘biotechnique’. The project was an attempt to merge the spiritual and practical into a new housing typology.

Cube deconstruction.

This is a preliminary sketch for a 3D construction idea. The premise is how to design and construct a cube without using glue. 

I have extended each plane to incorporate tabs with 2 holes for string.

Shell.

The word 'shell' can be defined as the walls of an unfinished or gutted building or other structure. Also, an outer form without substance. 

Here, I have conceived and constructed a 3D structure, which offers multiple configurations: Pine and reclaimed cardboard.

The piece demonstrates parallels with the dynamics of the fourth wall / proscenium theatre. Which through convention is invisible, imagined and separates the actors from the audience.

In her manifesto, 'The death of the plane', written in 1960, Lygia Clark writes, 

“The plane is a concept created by man for practical purposes: to satisfy his human need for balance.
The square, which is an abstract creation, is a product of the plane. The plane is a concept created by man for practical purposes: to satisfy his need for balance.”

'Shell' is an exploration of of how an object, defined by given parameters, can extend and reform into new configurations.

Under offer.

Under offer.

3D piece conceived and constructed in November 2019. 

The piece is a response to several empty commercial units found within the my local town. The title, 'Under offer', alludes to the notion that empty spaces are vacant and awaiting possession or tenancy. The piece is designed to fit inside the dimensions of a supermarket shopper bag.

The need to fit the piece inside the dimensions of a shopper bag is a numerical constraint borne out of necessity. Due to a need to transport the piece between the 3D workshop and my studio (dining room at home) to Gallery House, Leeds. "It requires transporting by train!"

Made from found materials in an 'ad hoc' style; synthesized to demonstrate empty spaces. Both within the shopper bag and in the 3D piece itself.

Inspired by ‘The Poetics of space’, by Gaston Bachelard.

I endeavored to capture the light inside an empty commercial unit. The light is suggestive of potential for progress and growth.
